Condition Packs — Joints/Arthritis & Pancreatitis (evidence-graded)

Joints & Arthritis (11 pairs — qa-joints-arthritis.json)
- Omega-3 = best-evidenced supplement — systematic reviews: strong evidence, first-line non-drug for OA pain.
- Green-lipped mussel — solid (multiple blinded placebo-controlled RCTs: PCSO-524, EAB-277).
- Glucosamine/chondroitin — HONESTLY MIXED: a systematic review found no significant effect; some RCTs show improvement by ~day 70. Safe add-on, not a reliable performer. Don't overstate.
- Weight management = arguably the #1 lever (mechanical load + fat is pro-inflammatory). Free.
- Movement: consistent low-impact (leash walks, hydrotherapy); avoid weekend-warrior bursts; traction on floors.
- Turmeric: limited canine data, poor absorption without bioavailable form. CBD: promising early small RCTs, quality varies, drug interactions — vet guidance.
- NSAIDs: natural-first reduces drug need, but never let a dog suffer; natural base + judicious meds.
Pancreatitis (9 pairs — qa-pancreatitis.json)
- LOW FAT = cornerstone: <~10% fat dry matter; 5–8% DM for severe/recurrent. (Honest: evidence is mostly clinical experience, few controlled trials — but it's standard of care + physiologically sound.)
- MYTH-BUST: don't fast for days. Modern evidence favors EARLY feeding (low-fat, often tube-fed in hospital) → fewer complications than prolonged fasting/IV-only. Acute attack = vet-managed.
- Triggers: fatty scraps/bacon/fried/cheese; holiday spikes; higher-risk = Mini Schnauzers, overweight dogs.
- Diet: low-fat, moderate digestible protein, small frequent meals. Single acute bout may return to moderate fat later (vet ok); chronic/recurrent = lifelong low-fat.
- Omega-3 caution: it's anti-inflammatory BUT it IS fat — use carefully/with vet in pancreatitis-prone dogs.
- Emergency: repeated vomiting + pain + anorexia + lethargy → vet now.
