Dental Health & Vaccines/Titers (protocol packs)
Two packs ingested 2026-07-04 under [[PINECONE_PROTOCOL]] (confidence-tagged + sourced). Part of [[Nutrition]] / care.
Dental Health (9 pairs — qa-dental-health.json)
- 🟢 80% of dogs have periodontal disease by age 2; oral→systemic (heart/liver/kidney).
- 🟢 Daily brushing = gold standard (dog toothpaste only — human = xylitol/fluoride danger).
- 🟡 VOHC-seal products = independently proven to reduce plaque/tartar; 1 chew/day or brush every other day helps.
- ⚪ Raw bones clean teeth = weak evidence + fracture/choking risk (never cooked bones). Myth-calibrated.
- 🟡 Kibble cleans teeth = MYTH (except engineered VOHC dental diets).
- 🟢 Anesthesia-free cleaning = MYTH-BUST — cosmetic only, can't clean below gumline (where disease is); anesthesia needed; disease risk > anesthesia risk.
- 🟡 Bad breath usually = dental disease (also diabetes/kidney/gut clues).
Vaccines & Titers (10 pairs — qa-vaccines-titers.json)
Holistic-but-honest = "minimal EFFECTIVE vaccination" — fully protected, not needlessly boosted. NOT anti-vax.
- 🟢 Core (distemper/adenovirus/parvo + rabies) = essential (these diseases kill). Non-core (lepto/Bordetella/Lyme/flu) = risk-based.
- 🟢 No annual core boosters needed — modern MLV core immunity lasts years; AAHA/AVMA moved core to every 3 years. (Holistic "don't over-vaccinate" instinct = mainstream-backed.)
- 🟡 Titers — AAHA-endorsed for distemper/parvo/adenovirus/rabies; test before re-boosting; many dogs immune for years. Not reliable for non-core; puppy series still required.
- 🟢 Rabies = legally required, set by law, ~3yr; keep current (medical exemption is a legal process).
- 🟢 Puppy series essential (maternal-antibody window; parvo/distemper kill pups).
- 🟢 Vaccine safety: core vaccines safe, serious reactions rare; the evidence-based concern is OVER-vaccination, not vaccines — avoid anti-vax "vaccines cause everything" framing (hurts credibility + leaves dogs unprotected).
