The large pit is the real hazard — a serious choking and intestinal-obstruction risk, not a poison risk. The skin isn't meant to be eaten either. The high fat content of the flesh can also trigger stomach upset or pancreatitis in sensitive dogs if overdone.
A little plain avocado flesh is okay for most dogs as an occasional treat, but skip the pit and skin and don't make it a fatty daily habit.
